Here’s the real thing! This is the traditional Ukrainian Borscht recipe that was handed down to Elena from her mom and grandma. We haven’t met anyone yet who has tasted it and didn’t like it. This is the dish that Ted Allen, Food Network celebrity described as the “…best thing I ever ate in a bowl.”
Of course he wasn’t reviewing Elena’s version specifically, but the point is, this borscht is good food. Some people, when first offered borscht, say “I hate beets!” They obviously have never tried authentic Ukrainian Borscht, because the beets are very few, and mainly added for the nice red color they add to the mix. Once you try it, you love it!
Elena’s heirloom recipe includes 11 nutritious ingredients, including pork, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, onions, garlic and fresh herbs. Served hot with a dollop of sour cream. Extremely tasty, even (maybe best) on the second or third day.
